Why choose Sleep Health Center?

We're experienced and committed

Our treatment team has decades of experience in the treatment of sleep disorders and chronic health conditions.  We have evaluated and treated thousands of people suffering from a wide variety of sleep and chronic health conditions.  The wisdom gained through this experience means that we are rarely surprised by anything (as we have seen it all before).  If you happen to surprise us, then no worries.  We will take the time to figure it out.  We are consummate learners, meaning that we understand that we do not and cannot know everything about everything.  If we don’t know, we have the resources to figure it out.  We spend countless hours searching for answers for our patients.

We collaborate with our patients

Our entire evaluation and treatment process is done with respect for the knowledge you already have about you and your condition.  We seek to understand what you already know and value your expertise as you are the expert in you.  We also consider your preferences and seek to find solutions which are consistent with your values.

Rapid relief is important and possible

A majority of our patients report experience of relief after their first visit.  The source of this relief stems from the sense of feeling understood and finally understanding their condition and having a plan for improvement.

We're independent and connected

As an independent practice, our providers make their own schedules, don’t have productivity demands, and are free to practice in the way we believe is best.  As a result, we can see you in a timely fashion and spend however much time we need to be of most help to you.  We also collaborate with local universities and are involved in the training of future psychologists and physicians.  These relationships keep us on the forefront of research and up to date on the most current treatment options.

We believe in the “golden rule”

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  We want to make sure we are providing a valuable service and believe in making sure the approach we are using actually works.  We have, through our own expense, evaluated the effectiveness of our insomnia treatment approach with these results published in a peer reviewed journal.  We often assume that the advice we are getting from our healthcare providers is good advice.  That stated, you may be surprised to know that very few healthcare providers have ever put their own practice under the microscope to see if what they are doing actually works.  If you were to ask your provider about their treatment outcomes (not the pharmaceutical company’s outcomes), you will likely get a deer in headlights look.

Our evaluation process is comprehensive and essential

Many providers will say they need many visits simply to get to know you in order to come to a diagnosis and develop a plan.  I’ve heard of patients seeing providers dozens of times and still not having a specific plan.  Our evaluation process is unique to our practice, condition specific, refined over years of practice, and designed to enable us to quickly and efficiently conduct our differential diagnosis to enable you to get to a solution as soon as possible.  Our goal is to get you in and well as soon as possible.

We think systemically about conditions

As you may be aware, our healthcare system has become overly siloed.  You go to one silo for your pain, another for sleep, another for your GI symptoms, another for your anxiety.  The reality is that many of these seemingly separate conditions have common threads.  We focus on the common threads and can therefore have impact across multiple conditions simultaneously.

We believe in empowering our patients with knowledge

We will tell you what we think and emphasize the importance of letting you know all the things that you can do to manage your condition.  Too often people are told things like “you need to lose weight”.  This is largely unhelpful for many as they probably already know that and if they knew how to lose weight, they would have already lost the weight.  What is more important is knowing “how to lose weight”.  The how involves a specific plan, developing the skills to make this possible, working through strategies to overcome the obstacles that keep getting in the way.  This is the approach we take to all the conditions we treat.  We will share our knowledge with you, make sure to take the time for you to understand what is going on, and teach you what you can do to help.
